President's Message

From the Hack

We say goodbye to 2025 and welcome a brand-new year to write our newest chapter.  I look forward to catching up with you and checking out the new grippers, brooms, gloves and shoes and protective headwear I am sure you all had on your list to Santa.

On behalf of your entire board of governors, I would like to wish you all a very safe, happy, healthy and successful New Year.

Good day ACC curlers,

I trust you all are enjoying the year so far. Our new league structure is proving successful, as our primetime leagues are full and the atmosphere in the club seems to be quite vibrant.

With less than a month to go before our Christmas break the quality of the curling has been impressive. Andrew’s organization of our recent clinics has helped greatly in developing and improving our curling skills and we look forward to more instructional clinics in the future.

The Turkey Spiel this year continued to be one of our more popular events. This well-organized bonspiel saw a full complement of players, some competitive games, a day full of fun and amazing food.  Thanks to all the volunteers who made it happen, especially Gina Howard and Deborah Coldwell, and the curlers who came out with their holiday spirit.

As part of our 170th anniversary celebration, we’ll have a float in next Sunday’s Santa Claus parade, followed by a social in the curling club lounge.  Please sign up to walk in the parade (there’s room on the float if you have mobility issues) and join us in the lounge for some light snacks after.

Registration for the Family Fun bonspiel on December 27 is now open and the ACC/Legion Challenge on January 17 will open December 6. Be sure to check the webpage for registration details and join us for these fun events.

As you read in the newsletter, we are now using the 5-rock free guard zone rule. Be sure to read the rule definition that the league coordinators have sent out.

The new flooring we installed in the off season is helping to keep the ice clean and the curlers safe! This anti-slip and non-porous flooring is a major improvement over the previous carpeting and is a welcome upgrade for our ice tech Keith.

Lastly the ACC is actively looking for new board members. Your governing board of nine will be needing three to four new members this coming year as some of the existing members have completed their term and will transition out to new roles within the club.

If you feel you would like to help shape our direction and future or have a skill set that could be an asset to your club then I ask you get in contact with me or any other board member for more details.
