President's Message

From the Hack,

Welcome to February!

Not a lot to report as we enter our third trimester.

Ice conditions have been fantastic. Pebbling and nipping have been capped at four between scrapes and this has resulted in superior ice conditions for all to enjoy. A big thank you to all the pebblers out there and especially to Ice techs Mark and Rick.

Two bonspiels took place in January, both were highly successful in both turnout and spirit. The Legion Challenge was a fun and competitive day. After the final rock was thrown the ACC won its second challenge in a row. The legionnaires put up a fierce battle, but it proved futile against the ACC juggernaut. A wonderful event followed by a delicious dinner and live entertainment at our local Legion branch. A big thank you to Steve and Paul.

The second spiel was the U-5 tournament. It is hard to match the enthusiasm of these new to curling athletes. This great event, which I was able to visit, was very well organized and the games were extremely close. Gratitude to the Powers that be as Deb and Sandra hosted a wonderful day of curling. I could not stay for the potluck meal but was wishing I had! Keep checking the website for a very busy, slate of events this February.

The U-5 league also welcomes this year’s graduates of our highly successful Learn to Curl program. Ian and his team of coaches have turned out some fine curlers who are ready to take on the world and are a welcome addition to our club.

Negotiations on a new lease agreement with the municipality will commence shortly and after securing the funding required to procure a new ice plant, we are looking forward to a long-term agreement that will give our club years of stability and growth.

Lastly a new entrance way makeover to the facility is to be completed in the next few days. A very generous donation of talent and materials by our very own Wendy and her husband Bruce will result in a much cleaner and well-organized front door area. Keeping our outdoor garb away from the inside of the club will result in cleaner surfaces and a cleaner club house. “Good ice starts at the door”.

Be well all and curl on.
